The film, directed by Zootopia‘s Byron Howard and Jared Bush and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith, is scheduled to be released Nov. 24, 2o21.
How to watch Encanto?
Moviegoers can catch the animated flick in theaters.
Is there a trailer for Encanto?
The official trailer has yet to be released, but Disney has shared a teaser featuring an original song from the film. Watch below:
What is Encanto about?
The forthcoming film, set in Colombia, tells the story of an extraordinary family. Per the film’s longline, the Madrigals “live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.”
The magic of Encanto has blessed every child in the family, except for 15-year-old Mirabel, with a unique gift. “Gift or no gift, I am just as special as the rest of my family,” she says in the film. However, when Mirabel discovers that the magic surrounding Encanto is in danger, the ordinary teen might just be her family’s only hope.
How have people responded to the Encanto trailer?
Encanto is being praised for its Afro-Latino representation, which 2021’s In the Heights faced criticism for its lack of. “Seeing afro Latinos in Disney’s encanto is very pleasing to me,” one social media user tweeted. Another wrote, “Disney’s new animated movie #ENCANTO, about Colombia, dropped some new photos of the film. In them are Afro–Latino children (one with a sombrero vueltiao!) and a trigueña as lead characters. As a Colombian-American myself, this is not only beautiful but illustrative of Colombia.”
Who is in the Encanto cast?
Stephanie Beatriz lent her voice to the character of Mirabel. “Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” Beatriz said in a statement. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right—something I love and relate to very much.”
“I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride,” the In the Heights actress added. “As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all.”
The voice cast also includes María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan.
Will there be music in Encanto?
Yes! The film features all-new original songs by Grammy and Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. “Can’t wait for you to hear the new Disney songs I’ve been writing the past 4 years, in service of this incredible story,” the Hamilton alum tweeted ahead of the release of the teaser trailer.
Colombian singer Carlos Vives is the voice behind the track, “Colombia, Mi Encanto,” in the teaser trailer. “This song is a celebration of the magical diversity of Colombia,” Vives said in a statement. “I can’t wait to see how the music will blend with the images and the characters inspired by the ‘encanto’ of Colombians.”
