As royal fans delight in the news of another pregnant princess, we reveal how old Princess Beatrice is and when her first child is due.
It’s been a year of celebrations for the oldest York sister, with Beatrice announcing her pregnancy just 10 months after her fairytale royal wedding to husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Fans are delighted that the Queen has another great-grandchild on the way, with Princess Beatrice’s child set to be a fun playmate to her nephew baby Gus and her cousin Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet.
How old is Princess Beatrice?
Princess Beatrice is 32-years-old. She was born at 8:18pm on the evening of 8 August 1988, at the Portland Hospital, London.
Beatrice is the first child of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York. And she is two years older than sister Princess Eugenie.
Princess Beatrice is currently tenth-in-line to the throne and is Queen Elizabeth’s fifth grandchild.
Her full name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, with her middle name a sweet tribute to the Queen herself.
Whilst Beatrice – meaning ‘bringer of joy’ – honours the youngest child of Queen Victoria.
It was reported that Queen Elizabeth suggested the name Beatrice during a family gathering at Balmoral Castle, her Scottish residence.
Beatrice’s parents divorced when she was seven-years-old. Though the split was amicable with Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson both sharing joint custody.
In fact the former couple are on such good terms that they continue to live together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie once joked: “They are the best divorced couple I know.”
Does Princess Beatrice have a child already?
No Princess Beatrice does not have any children at present. With the new arrival set to be the Princess’s first child.
Whilst the 32-year-old is not yet a mother, she is a step-mother to her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s five-year-old son.
Edoardo shares Christopher Woolf “Wolfie” from a previous relationship with architect and designer Dara Huang.
Whilst Dara did not attend Princess Beatrice’s wedding, it appears there is no animosity between the exes. With Dara telling the Daily Mail after their engagement news: “I wish the best for Edo and Beatrice and look forward to uniting our families.”
Indeed, Beatrice’s stepson had a starring role during the nuptials last year. He was his father’s best man on the day and was also made a page boy.
When is Princess Beatrice’s baby due?
Buckingham Palace confirmed that Princess Beatrice is due to give birth to her baby in Autumn 2021.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year,” the statement read.
News of Beatrice’s pregnancy was shared on May 19 – the same date as Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding anniversary.
No doubt the Princess followed doctor advice and waited to share her baby news after the 12 week scan. This is when it is considered safe to announce a pregnancy, as midwives can check the baby is safe and well. 12 weeks is also when the risk of miscarriage greatly reduces.
Where will Princess Beatrice have her baby?
Whilst no location has been officially confirmed, it is thought that Princess Beatrice will have her baby at the Portland Hospital, London.
The private medical institution was where Beatrice’s sister Eugenie gave birth to her son August in February 2021. And it’s also where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie was born in 2019.
The hospital additionally holds a special place in the York sisters’ hearts – as it’s where Sarah Ferguson gave birth to both Beatrice and Eugenie. And it is this sentimental attachment which makes Portland Hospital the likely venue for Princess Beatrice’s baby to be born.
Other famous mothers who have had their babies at the hospital include Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley and Jools Oliver.
Those wanting to give birth at Portland can expect a lavish delivery suite, with 24-hour room service and luxury goodie bags containing Molten Brown toiletries. Though this comes at a price with Portland’s childbirth packages ranging between £15,000-£20,000.
Will Princess Beatrice’s baby have a title?
In a nutshell – yes Princess Beatrice’s baby will have a title – but not a royal one.
Beatrice’s husband is an Italian Count by birth, with Edoardo’s family descending from Italian aristocracy and owning the prestigious Villa Mapelli Mozzi in Bergamo, Italy.
This means that Princess Beatrice’s baby will have the honorary title of Count (male) or Nobile Donna (female) depending on their gender. Princess Beatrice also became a Countess upon her marriage to Edoardo.
As for the baby’s royal title – Beatrice’s child is not necessarily entitled to one because of state legislation.
A change in protocol in 1917 made it law that only children and grandchildren of the monarch can be given a HRH or prince or princess title.
As Princess Beatrice’s baby will be a great-grandchild of the Queen, he or she does not receive a royal title. And it is also for this reason why Princess Eugenie’s son and Prince Harry’s son Archie doesn’t have a royal title.
Despite this, Beatrice’s baby will still be born into the royal line of succession. He or she will be 12th in line to inherit the British throne when born.
