MasterChef season 11 is down to the Top 10 home cooks and tonight they will face a Mystery Box Challenge that features ingredients from California, in honor of guest judge Jonathan Waxman.
In this exclusive clip, host/judge Gordon Ramsay and judge Joe Bastianich advise Joseph that he has made a mistake that has the potential to get him eliminated.
Joe takes one look at the prawns that Joseph has cooked for the elimination challenge and says, “You jumped the gun a little on these.”
And Gordon chimes in, “Why cook those so early? Look at the clock. Why are you cooking the spot prawns now with 35 minutes to go?
Put on the spot, Joseph responds, “I wanted to hurry up and get them out of the way. Now I realize I should have cooked them later.”
And Joe points out it is even worse than Joseph thinks, saying, “These are already dry, and they’re overcooked. They’re continuing to cook because this [points to the range top where Joseph has placed them] is hot.”
So, Gordon suggests, “If anyone’s not using prawns, I would ask them if you can take what they’re not using.”
As Joe concludes, “These are going to get you in the bottom three for sure, so you need to figure out another plan.”
As we leave Joseph, he is taking Gordon’s suggestion and asking the other nine cheftestants if they have any prawns that they are not using. Will one of his competitors help him out? Since this is a Mystery Box Challenge, the 32-year-old from Houston can’t go to the kitchen and find more prawns in the refrigerator.
Tune in to MasterChef on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX to find out if Joseph is able to save his dish!
