With three new royal babies joining the firm in 2021, we share how many great-grandchildren the Queen has and the special name they call her.
She may be Her Majesty to us, yet to a growing number of the Queen’s grandchildren and some smaller family members she’ll always be granny first. The Queen’s great-grandchildren have often been a source of joy to the monarch during her reign, and were particularly credited as ‘keeping her going’ in the aftermath of Prince Philip’s death.
Last year saw the monarch’s great-grandchildren expand even more thanks to the arrival of Harry and Meghan’s first daughter and another bundle of joy via Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. We delve into the royal family tree to reveal how many she has in total and where they sit in the royal line of succession.
How many great-grandchildren does the Queen have?
Queen Elizabeth II has 12 great-grandchildren in total. Her eldest is Savannah Phillips, aged 11, the daughter of the Queen’s grandson Peter Phillips. Whilst Her Majesty’s youngest grandchild is Princess Beatrice’s new baby Sienna Mapelli Mozzi. Prince George, the son of Prince William, is considered an important great-grandchild of the Queen as he is third in line to inherit the throne.

It was Kate Middleton who also revealed how the Queen spoils her great-grandchildren in the 2016 documentary Our Queen at 90: “She always leaves a little gift or something in [Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s] room when we go and stay,” she said in the interview. “And that just shows her love for her family.”
Who are the Queen’s great-grandchildren?
Savannah and Isla Phillips

11-year-old Savannah is the oldest of the Queen’s great-grandchildren. She and sister Isla, ten, are the daughters of the Queen’s eldest grandson Peter Phillips and his ex wife, Autumn.
Savannah is 18th and Isla, 19th in line to the throne despite the two girls not having a royal title. When Princess Anne gave birth to her son Peter Phillips, she decided against giving Peter a title. And for this reason, the Phillips children also do not have a HRH title.
Savannah and Isla have been spotted at a number of royal occasions including the annual Trooping of the Colour. They were both bridesmaids at Princess Eugenie’s wedding in 2018.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis
Prince William and Kate Middleton are parents to Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four. Their first-born George is third in the royal line of succession and is expected to be King after his father. Whilst Princess Charlotte is fourth and Louis is fifth.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed that her eldest son George has a nickname for his great-grandmother in the 2016 Our Queen at 90 documentary. It is thought that Charlotte and Louis may have adopted the sweet moniker too.
“He calls her ‘Gan-Gan,’” Kate told ITV. “I think she’s very fond of Charlotte. She’s always watching what she’s up to,” she added.
Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall
Zara Tindall and her husband Mike share daughters Mia, eight, and Lena, three. They welcomed their first son Lucas in March 2021, with dad and former Rugby player Mike opening up on Lucas’s speedy birth.
“Arrived very quickly. Didn’t make it to hospital. On the bathroom floor,” Mike said on his The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast. “So yeah, it was running to the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get the mat on the floor, towels down, brace, brace, brace.”
Zara is the second child of Princess Anne and her ex-husband Captain Mark Phillips. Mia, Lena and Lucas are respectively 21st, 22nd and 23rd in line to the thone.

Archie Harrison is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and seventh-in-line to the throne. The three-year-old, who is said to ‘take after dad Harry’, was born in England in 2019. He now lives with his parents in Harry and Meghan’s new home in LA, where the couple relocated to after stepping back as senior royals. And the young tot is said to enjoy LA playdates with celebrity kids like James Corden’s.
As for Archie’s little sister, Lilibet Diana arrived in June 2021. Following her birth, it was announced that her first name Lilibet is a sweet tribute to Her Majesty.
Members of the public got their first glimpse of baby Lilibet and a then 2-year-old Archie (with all the red hair) in the family’s 2021 Christmas card photo. Harry and Meghan confirmed Archie and Lilibet will come to the UK with them in June when they fly over to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday.
August Brooksbank
Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their first child, August Brooksbank, in February 2021. Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
Eugenie gave a nod to Prince Philip when naming her son. His full name is August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, with his first middle name honouring the late Duke of Edinburgh. August is currently 13th in the royal line of succession.
Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi

Princess Beatrice was another one of the Queen’s grandchildren to provide her with a great-grandchild in 2021. The eldest Princess of York sister welcomed a baby girl with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. A while later she confirmed her daughter’s name as Sienna. Beatrice’s daughter doesn’t have a royal title but does bear the middle name Elizabeth – therefore honouring her great-granny. She arrived a year and a half after her mother Princess Beatrice’s wedding.
No photos of the baby have been released as yet. However, Beatrice was spotted out with Sienna a month after her birth. Here’s hoping the Platinum Jubliee celebrations will include a glimpse of the newest royal addition.

Prince George is considered an important great-grandchild of the Queen, as he is likely to inherit the throne one day and rule just like his grandma. It is understood that Prince William waited for a ‘controlled moment’ to tell his eldest about his future role as monarch.
