Something very sad happened in a town called Pottstown, Pennsylvania. It's a story about a fight between an older couple about their cat that ended terribly.

The lady, Margaret Seltmann, who was 85 years old, lost her life.

How it started

One day, the police got a call about a lady who wasn't moving. They quickly went to her house. When they arrived, they found Margaret lying on the kitchen floor. It was a scary scene. She had been hurt very badly on her head.

At their house, Barton Seltmann, Margaret's husband, was present, his hands and clothes covered in blood. Their home was in disarray, scattered with broken glass and a tiny knife lying on the floor, painting a distressing picture of the sad events that had unfolded.

The police discovered that Margaret and Barton were arguing about money for their cat's doctor visits.

Sometimes, people argue about things that are important to them, like taking care of their pets. But this argument became very serious, and Barton hurt Margaret during a fight.

"Detectives found that Margaret and Barton Seltmann were arguing about money for veterinary care of their cat when the fight turned physical," reported the Montgomery District Attorney's Office.

Barton told the police that Margaret said something scary to him during their fight. He felt frightened and used a chair to protect himself. But things went horribly wrong.

Trouble Calls

Now Barton is in trouble with the Pottsgrove Township police. Although he was taken to a hospital to treat a hand injury he sustained during the fight, the husband was arrested just after he was discharged.

The 84-year-old is currently behind bars at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. According to reports, he will remain in custody without bail until a preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for the 5th of December.

Barton Suffers Memory Loss

The horrible development has thrown the Braton family in disarray. WPVI-TV reported the couple, who had been married for over 30 years, always seemed happy with each other.

However, as the family reported, Mr Barton wasn't always in best health. Sandy Seltmann told reporters that the now-dead wife always complained about her husband's mental state.

"...Magaret said [Barton] was suffering from Dementia. He wasn't remembering things."

"Like if he went somewhere, he wasn't remembering where he was at and things," Said Barton's sister-in-law.
