The Fallout
Christopher and music icon Madonna were very close when Madonna was Queen of Pop. But as their professional connection declined, so did their relationship. Information about this was disclosed in Christopher’s 2008 bestselling book, titled ‘Life with My Sister.
According to Christopher, Madonna called him "gay" in an interview she gave to The Advocate in 1991; he then accused Guy Ritchie, Madonna's ex-husband, of being homophobic. He criticized her lifestyle, saying that she is a 'control freak.' The two reconciled four years later after the book feud. Although they remained in touch ever since then, collaboration between the duo came to a standstill.
Tribute from Madonna
Madonna paid homage to Christopher on Sunday via Instagram, where she shared a picture carousel spanning his career: “My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human to me for so long. [It’s] hard to explain our bond but it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo. We took each other‘s hands and we danced through the madness of our childhood…
…In fact dance was a kind of superglue that held us together...We danced through the madness of the AIDS epidemic. We went to funerals and we cried, and we went dancing…I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, Which he sometimes used against me but I always forgave him.…I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him.”
