A recent story of a beautiful Mexican bride arrested on her wedding day has been making rounds online, with lots of people wondering about the gravity of her offense and why she had to be arrested on her special day.

The bride, identified as Nancy N, was apprehended right in front of the Villa Guerrero church building. Immediately, she alighted from her vehicle, but the groom took to his heels just before they could get to him.

According to the state prosecutor, the couple extorted chicken and eggs from poultry merchants and kidnapped some of the poultry workers as well.

Some think the groom’s escape was sheer luck and couldn't have happened if Nancy hadn't been apprehended first before the church.

After all, the state prosecutor had been in a free outfit, which meant the couple would have walked into their arrest without a clue.

In the picture posted by the attorney, the bride is seen wearing her wedding dress, which must have cost a fortune. She is also handcuffed with some officers by her side.

The groom, Clemente N, popularly nicknamed El Raton - a loose meaning for “mouse” has been declared wanted by the Mexican officers.

Aside from the dramatic apprehension of the couple, six other suspects were said to have been arrested as accomplices to the crime. The group was also confirmed to be connected to the drug cartel Familia Michoacana, which happened in Guerrero, leading to the deadly drone incident that caused dread earlier this month.

Extortion: The New Norm?

In recent years, extortion has become rampant in Mexico, leading to a shift in focus of the criminal department from drug trafficking to extortion crimes, according to The New York Times NYT.

Just last month, the same incident happened in Texcapilla, where the residents killed up to 10 members of the conglomerate who were trying to extort some money from the farmers.

The prosecutors agreed not to press any charges against the farmers as they concluded they had acted out in self-defense.

The gang members had demanded the farmers pay an amount for every square meter of the land, but the farmers vehemently protested against it.

They were reportedly gathered in an open field where the gang members attempted to bully them, but the farmers fought against them using machetes and other weapons. However, four out of the farmers were killed, while others sustained injuries.
