In the wildly popular Stranger Things series on Netflix, Schnapp plays Will Byers, a part the actor affirmed was "100 percent" gay after the season 4 premiere.
Schnapp uploaded a video on TikTok where he stated how scared he was of telling his family and friends that he was gay. he stated that his fears lasted for about 18 years. And when he finally told them, all they said was, 'we know.' Schnapp was lip-syncing to an audio clip of someone.
In the caption to his TikTok video, Schnapp stated that he is more similar to Will than he thought.
Schnapp confirmed Will’s sexuality in a June 2022 interview with Variety
The Netflix show’s fourth season hinted heavily that Will is gay and is attracted to his best friend Mike, but never explicitly addressed the character’s sexuality.
In an interview with Variety published on Thursday, June 14, Schnapp stated that it is now "100% evident" that Will is gay.
He stated that undoubtedly, it was hinted in season one: “Is it just that he's maturing more slowly than his friends? It was always kind of there, but you never really knew.”
"They made it seem very real and obvious now that he is older. It is now undeniably evident that he is gay and that he does love Mike. It was a slow arc earlier, though. It's so simple to make a character gay all of a sudden, so I think it's done so beautifully" — Schnapp stated.
Schnapp added that the fan response to Will’s story has been positive, saying: “He was just in Paris, and this, like, 40-year-old man came up to him and he was like, Will's character made him feel so good. And he related to it so much. That is exactly who he was when he was a kid. That just made him so happy to hear.”
Later in the conversation, Schnapp indicated his desire for the show's upcoming season to address Will's sexuality openly. He stated that they have so many different issues to deal with. And, of course, They want a coming-out scenario.
Doja had messaged Schnapp on Instagram asking about his co-star Joseph Quinn romantically, according to a video Schnapp had posted.
The 26-year-old artist lambasted him and called his actions "borderline snake s***" for making the dialogue public.
According to the 17-year- old's account in Variety, the singer accepted his apology and expressed regret for her response.
