Thor: Love and Thunder is coming to the big screen very soon - in fact, it'll only be a few months before the thunder god returns, following the release of
Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.
There's also a first trailer to enjoy, which gives us our first look at Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who has now transformed into... the Mighty Thor. Mjolnir is even in her hands. If that wasn't enough, you can also see Russell Crowe as Zeus, albeit Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher is nowhere to be seen.
Chris Hemsworth previously told fans that the new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder will "blow your mind," and now they can see for themselves during Monday's NBA playoff game on ABC.
The trailer garnered over two million views on the Marvel Entertainment YouTube website within an hour of its release.
At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel announced the title for Love and Thunder, revealing that Natalie Portman would be returning to the franchise for the first time since Thor: The Dark World (2013).

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on July 8, 2022. It was moved back from its intended November 5, 2021 date due to a series of delays.

Thor: Love and Thunder has released its highly anticipated trailer. It shows Chris Hemsworth's Thor going through some major soul-searching, with a little help from Chris Pratt's Star-Lord.
In addition, the teaser reveals Valkyrie as King of Asgard, as well as a glimpse of Russell Crowe's Zeus – and, of course, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster clutching Mjolnir.
Thor: Love and Thunder cast
Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, will take on the role of Mighty Thor in the next film. Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie, and Christian Bale and Russell Crowe make their franchise debuts. Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista reprise their roles from the Guardians of the Galaxy saga in this production.
No surprise on who is front and center in Thor 4. Yep. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, the God of Thunder. Valkyrie, the freshly installed monarch of New Asgard, joins him (Tessa Thompson). Fans of Loki will be disappointed to learn that Tom Hiddleston will not be reprising his role.
Natalie Portman made a surprise appearance on stage at SDCC 2019. She would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster, but not just any Jane Foster. Jane Foster will be The Mighty Thor, a narrative hook straight from comic writer Jason Aaron's famed mid-2010s Thor run, whether she's from the multiverse or not.
Russell Crowe has joined the cast of the film and stated that he will portray Zeus, which means we can expect a lot of lightning if the two thunder gods meet.
Thor: Love and Thunder story
After rebooting the Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok, filmmaker Taika Waititi returns to direct Love and Thunder (2017). Waititi has subsequently won an Oscar and established himself as a crucial member of the Disney family, starring in and directing episodes of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and creating a Star Wars feature film for the studio. Waititi wrote the script for Love and Thunder based on a narrative he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

The synopsis reads, "The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he's ever experienced — a quest for inner peace." "However, his retirement is disrupted by Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a galactic killer bent on wiping out the gods.
"To counteract the menace, Thor enlists the aid of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who, to Thor's amazement, wields his mystical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor." They set out on a perilous cosmic journey together to unravel the secret of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it's too late."
The first teaser for Love and Thunder was released in April and featured a Thor who had given up the superhero life after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
