Netizens were surprised by their messages on WhatsApp failing to deliver and their statuses failing to update. The popular messaging app temporarily shut down, leaving users worldwide wondering what went wrong. The outage was experienced by users in the UK, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
WhatsApp went down at 07:50 GMT. Thousands of users across the globe took to Twitter and other social media to report the problem. For people in India, the latest outage happened during a critical festive season, leaving many out of reach from family and friends.
Although the platform seems to be back to functionality after about two hours of outage, users worldwide are worried about the incessant outage of the Meta app. Recall that on October 4th, 2021, the Meta trio, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp stopped working globally for more than 6 hours. Users speculated the outage was due to a cyberattack. However, sources from the Meta team revealed that the outage resulted from an internal error.
Social media users are skeptical about the strength of Meta apps. At the time of this writing, Telegram, another messaging app, is trending on Twitter, with users proposing it would be the best WhatsApp alternative.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson for Meta said earlier today.
At this time, the app is functioning. However, who knows when there will be another outage and for how long.
