Lady Gaga, known for her hit "Rain On Me," is a big fan of haute couture. It's no wonder that she once made a fashion statement by wearing car parts to the premiere of her concert documentary, Gaga Chromatica Ball.

Anyone else wearing this would be shocked, but for Gaga, it’s another day in her bold fashion style.

Remember when she wore an entire dress made of raw meat to the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010?

She paired it with a matching fascinator and shoes. That was Lady Gaga setting a high bar for herself.

Since then, she has been committed to her image as a provocateur and avant-garde artist. She perfectly balances art and the shock factor, and her fashion choices reflect that.

It's not shocking that her most recent appearance combines fashion and car design, all presented in high-end fashion.

The gown, created by Selva Huygens, is from his [BFAM] collection at his fashion house based in Berlin.

The Selva Dress: An Automotive Fashion Statement

Selva Huygens’ design philosophy involves integrating discarded auto parts into haute couture.

The [BFAM] series, which stands for Brutalist Functional Art Movement, focuses on upcycling these parts into fashion and art pieces.

Lady Gaga's dress is an all-white off-the-shoulder pleather gown with reinforced eyelets and oversized zippers.

The most attention-grabbing feature is a reworked car bumper from a vintage Mercedes that serves as a collar.

Other outfits designed by Selva feature similarly bold collars, incorporating armholes to create a brutalist angel aesthetic.

In Gaga’s case, the dress looked like a Transformer caught mid-transformation.

Gaga, a fan of eccentric fashion, confidently sported the outlandish outfit on the black carpet during the premiere of her concert documentary Gaga Chromatica Ball, currently available for streaming on HBO.

She also posted it on social media, teasing that she wouldn’t reveal what car part it was.

“On the red carpet, I told them it was a car part,” Gaga wrote in her post. “They said what kind, and I said, I don't know, I'm not a mechanic.”

Lady Gaga's Fashion Style Over the Years

When Gaga showed up at the 2010 VMAs, where she was up for 13 awards, her unconventional outfits were already familiar to the public.

In the previous year, she sang covered in fake blood, wore a red latex ballgown to meet the Queen, and appeared on German TV wearing a coat made entirely of Kermit the Frog dolls. However, she managed to outdo herself with the meat dress.

The idea for the meat dress came from a conversation with make-up artist Val Garland, who had worn her version back in the 1980s.

Before becoming a make-up artist, Garland was a hairdresser in Australia, wearing a meat outfit to a club. "Before I was a make-up artist, I was a hairdre, and I used to live in Australia," Garland tells BBC Culture. "

Inspired by this, Gaga decided to create her own meat dress, which became one of the most talked-about fashion statements ever.

Gaga's fashion style often mixes the bizarre with the artistic. She uses fashion to make bold statements, challenge norms, and stay true to her image as a boundary-pushing artist.
