41-year-old Prince of Wales William Arthur Philip reportedly drops out of the ceremony to honor his Godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, due to a personal affair not disclosed to the public.
The service of Thanksgiving was scheduled to take place in Windsor Castle at Saint George's Chapel on Tuesday, but the prince could not attend the program.
On January 10th, 2023, King Constantine of Greece, who was also Prince William's Godfather, passed away at the age of 82.
The ceremony to honor his memory includes a reading from Prince William. However, the Prince had informed the Constantine family beforehand that he would not be available to take the reading on the day of the event.
Although it is still unclear why the prince could have been absent from the event, some people fear that it could be related to his wife, while some assume that it is related to the health of his father, King Charles.
It has been reported that Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton, underwent abdominal surgery at the London Clinic on January 16th.
She is currently in recovery from the procedure. Additionally, Prince William's father, King Charles, was diagnosed with cancer in the same month.
While other reports claim that Prince William's absence from a recent ceremony is unrelated to his father's health, it is likely that he is fulfilling his duties as a husband by staying with his wife during her time of need.
Despite William not attending the party, the congregation who attended the party included King Constantine's widowed wife, Queen Annie Marie, and their son, Crown Prince Pavlos, with his wife, Crown Princess Marie Chantal.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony was the Duchess of York, who also resides in the same Royal lodge at the Windsor Estate as Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
Although Prince Andrew stepped back from his royal duties in 2019 and lost his military titles after his association with convicted sex fugitive Jeffrey Epstein in 2022, he still attends mandatory family events.
Other attendees at the event include the late king's eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Princess Annie, King Charles's sister, also attended alongside her husband Timothy Laurence, her daughter Zara Tindall, and her husband Mike Tindall.
Prince William and the Greek Relationship
The link between Prince William, the royal family, and the Greeks is pretty strong and admirable.
Late King Constantine had been a great friend to King Charles and his late wife Queen Elizabeth.
King Charles was the first cousin of King Constantines, and now Prince Williams is also the Godfather to one of Prince Pavlo's children.
Last year, Prince Williams was also unable to attend King Constantine's funeral ceremony, but he asked that his relative Gabriella Windsor represent him instead.
It is a familiar tradition for senior royals in Britain to ask relatives or close family friends to act as representatives to functions on their behalf.
